I am creator of the performing womxn-creatives collective known as The Wild Nellies. We are diverse in art practice, age and culture. Among us are creators of music, art, theatre, film, photography, dance, poetry, spoken word poetry and literature. We gather to perform or exhibit our work and to spread the healing power of creative self-expression to women struggling to find their voice.
The Wild Nellies “Celebration of Women” events raise awareness and funds to benefit charities that support women fleeing domestic violence. We’ve so far worked with The Denise House, Anishinaabe Kwewag Gamig Inc. Regional Women’s Shelter, Women’s Multicultural Resource and Counselling Centre, and the Muslim Welfare Home.
The Wild Nellies Meet-ups for Womxn Creatives provide an opportunity for women artists to meet and share ideas with others working in various disciplines. The evenings feature creativity panels of which I’m proud to moderate.
Through The Wild Nellies, I’ve been blessed by so many dazzling conversations about creativity, a topic I never tire of. The womxn are beautiful of spirit, caring toward others, and passionate about their craft. Always, I’m so inspired by them and the people to attend to share space with us.
