I’m wondering where this is, what that little boy was thinking and what the children were eating! It doesn’t look so different inside to what I’ve seen of our schools in England in years gone by, though the setting is a little different!

Andrea, I was also captured by the little boy’s expression. It seems the answer is always on the ceiling. The first photo was taken in France as part of a series by Robert Doisneau. At first I thought the photo was staged, but then I read that Doisneau preferred candid street photography, so I changed my opinion. If you search his name online, you will discover some iconic images. I was unable to find the source of the girl’s photo which was a great disappointment.
